Well, I already read King's book, and it was wonderful. Meanwhile, what have I been reading this summer? I just finished an advance copy of Mark Noce's historical novel, Between Two Fires. It's a very exciting read, set in 6th century Wales in the post-Arthurian era. If you like historical novels, you'll like this one.
I LOVE this book! (Of course, I'm a pretty big Stephen King fan). You are right that it's not just for writers wanting to learn craft. His rags to riches story is quite inspiring and is a reminder to never give up. What am I reading this summer? I just got done with Diana Erbio's "Coming to America: A Young Girl Struggles to Find Her Way in a New World" which was a great read for those who love history - takes place right after WWII. And I've just started reading Taya Kyle's "American Wife."
